The first Myddleton Road Market took place in June 2013. The idea for the market came from Lucy Whitehead, a local resident, who wanted to help to regenerate and breathe life back into the local high street, Myddleton Road, which for years had suffered problems and neglect, where it once was a thriving shopping area.

The first 3 markets were on a trial basis and were funded by the council, after this point the market became self sufficient. In 2017 the market became a monthly event and has since gone from strength to strength. Its community focus makes it very important for the local neighbourhood: priority is given to local sellers and support is provided to get them started, young people are employed to help with set up process; community groups are collaborated with on bigger street festival events which offer free kids activities; free space is offered to local charities and campaigns.

A carefully chosen mix of stalls are booked in with a range of products from delicious international street food, to locally made crafts and produce. We plan to extend the market in 2018 to cover a longer section of Myddleton Road which will mean many more stalls can be accommodated.  

Lucy Whitehead continues to run the markets and an unincorporated association group of community members steers the market organisation which plans to incorporate as a non profit company in 2018.
